Hands-On Education Program Instructor
The Shop Rat Foundation , a 501 c 3 non profit education foundation holds afterschool extracurricular classes to teach middle and high school students how to use tools and machinery while building innovative projects like hovercrafts, motorcycles and wheelie cars. We are looking for a very energetic, hard working, self motivated individual who is able to juggle many projects while remaining true to our mission. Position will start part-time in February to train with our current instructor, then will move into a full time position. Visit Shoprat.org for more information about the program.
We are looking for someone who is state certified, and/or has extensive experience as a youth leader.

Instructor Responsibilities Record Keeping • Maintaining Student Information Data • Attendance Information • Discipline Records • Injury Reports • Purchase Orders • Pre/Post Tests Scores (Grant Information) • Activity Large & Small Project Development
Classroom Prep/Responsibilities • Create & Print: Safety Sheets, Activity Instruction Sheets, Career Materials as needed • Daily Lesson Plans for project builds, topic lessons, safety & career materials • Creating PowerPoint Presentations (Tool of the Week, Topic Lessons, etc) • Create Jigs/Fixtures as needed to support Learning Activities • Maintain Classroom, Build Areas, Tools & Equipment • Set Up and Supervise Student Clean Up • Supervise Students before and after Class time • Plan & Supervise Student Snack Time • Purchase material/kits as required for class • Transport tool and materials as required • Create Pre/Post Tests for each Build
Communications • Explain class activities to Assistants and Volunteer as needed • Meet with Staff • Parent Letters/Phone Contacts as needed • Contacts with Plant Personal (Repair Requests, Class Calendar) • Jackson Area Career Center Staff
Recruitment • Visit Area Schools • Plan & Attend Local Events • Additional Manufacturer Classes
Special Activities • Develop appropriate materials for Short Classes, Events, and Camps • Create support materials for Large & Small Project Builds as needed • Acquire & Evaluate Small Project Kits • Technical Writing (Project Instruction Sheets/Manuals) • Arrange Field Trips • Support to Instructors (Addition Manufacturers)
